Who We Are
Our Purpose
"First Baptist Church exists for the purpose of establishing God's Kingdom, His rule and reign in the lives of people in Newton and Jasper County."
Our Mission
"To honor God by leading people in Newton, Jasper County and beyond to become loving, joyful, fully-functioning followers of Jesus Christ."
What We Believe
The Scriptures
We believe the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments to be the verbally inspired word of God, the final authority for faith and life, inerrant in the original writings, infallible, and God-breathed (2 Timothy 3:16, 17; 2 Peter 1:20, 21; Matthew 5:18; John 16:12, 13).
The Godhead
We believe in one Triune God, eternally existing in three persons Father, Son, and Holy Spirit co-eternnal in being, co-eternal in nature, co-equal in power and glory, having the same attributes and perfections (Deuteronomy 6:4; 2 Corinthians 13:14)
The Person and Work of Christ
We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God, became man without ceasing to be God, having been conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary in order that He might reveal God and redeem sinful man (John 1:12, 14; Luke 1:35). We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ accomplished our redemption through His death on the cross as a representative, vicarious, substitutionary sacrifice, and that our justification is made sure by His literal, physical resurrection from the dead (Romans 3:24; 1 Peter 2:24; Ephesians 1:7; 1 Peter 1:35). We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ ascended into heaven and is now exalted at the right hand of God where, as our High Priest, He fulfills the ministry as Representative, Intercessor, and Advocate (Acts 1:9, 10; Hebrews 7:25; Hebrews 9:24; Romans 8:34; 1 John 2:12). We believe Jesus is coming again to judge the living and the dead (1 Peter 4:5; Romans 14:9; 2 Timothy 4:1).
The Person and Work of the Holy Spirit
We believe that the Holy Spirit is a person who convicts the world of sin, of righteousness, and of judgment; He is the Supernatural Agent in regeneration, baptizing all believers into the body of Christ, indwelling and sealing them unto the day of redemption (John 16:811; 2 Corinthians 3:6; 1 Corinthians 12:12-14; Romans 8:9; Ephesians 5:18).
The Total Depravity of Man
We believe that man was created in the image and likeness of God, but that through Adams sin the race fell, inherited a sinful nature, and became alienated from God; man is totally depraved and of himself utterly unable to remedy his lost condition (Genesis 1:26, 27; Romans 3:22, 23; 5:12; Ephesians 2:12-13).
Salvation
We believe that salvation is the gift of God brought to man by grace and received by personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, whose precious blood was shed on Calvary for the forgiveness of our sins (Ephesians 2:8-10; John 1:12; Ephesians 1:7; 1 Peter 1:18-19).
Eternal Security and Assurance of Believers
We believe that all the redeemed, once saved, are kept by Gods power and are thus secure in Christ forever (John 6:3740; 10:2730; Romans 8:1, 38, 39; 1 Corinthians 1:48; 1 Peter 1:5). We believe that it is the privilege of believers to rejoice in the assurance of their salvation through the testimony of Gods Word, which clearly forbids the use of Christian liberty as an occasion for the flesh (Romans 13:13, 14; Galatians 5:13; Titus 2:11-15).
The Ministry and Spiritual Gifts
We believe that God is sovereign in the bestowing of spiritual gifts. It is, however, the believers responsibility to attempt to develop their sovereignly given spiritual gift(s). The baptism of the Holy Spirit occurs at conversion and is the placing of the believer into the Body of Christ. We also believe that particular spiritual gift(s) are neither essential, nor prove the presence of the Holy Spirit, nor are an indication of deep spiritual experience (1 Corinthians 12:7, 11, 13; Ephesians 4:78). We believe that God does hear and answer the prayer of faith, in accordance with His own will, for the sick and afflicted (John 15:7; 1 John 5:14, 15). We believe that it is the privilege and responsibility of every believer to minister according to the gift(s) and grace of God that is given to him (Romans 12:18; 1 Corinthians 13; 1 Peter 4:10-11).
The Church
We believe that the church, which is the body and espoused bride of Christ, is a spiritual organism made up of all born-again persons (Ephesians 1:22, 23; 5:25-27; 1 Corinthians 12:1214; 2 Corinthians 11:2). We believe that the establishment and continuance of local churches is clearly taught and defined in the New Testament Scriptures (Acts 14:27; 18:22; 20:17; 1 Timothy 3:13; Titus 1:511). We believe in the autonomy of the local churches, free of any external authority and control (Acts 13:14; 15:19-31; 20:28; Romans 16:1,4; 1 Corinthians 3:9, 16; 1 Corinthians 5:47, 13; 1 Peter 5:14). We recognize believers baptism and the Lords supper as scriptural means of testimony for the church (Matthew 28:19, 20; Acts 2:41, 42; Acts 18:8; 1 Corinthians 11:23-26)
One billion people do not have access to potable water. Many of these same people are existing without the hope offered by Jesus Christ. Drinking water and Living Water.
Safe Water International Ministries (S.W.I.M.) was organized in 2004 as a way to bring these two types of water to those in need. The S.W.I.M. hand-held Chlorine Producing Unit is a ministry tool designed to give all people around the world the opportunity for safe water. It is purposely made to be durable, lightweight, inexpensive, and so simple that anyone can use it safely.
Safe Water International Ministries is a ministry that focuses on physical needs first and then on the spiritual need for faith in Christ. CPU's are not marketed by Safe Water International Ministries for the purpose of making a profit, but are sold at cost in order to make it possible for others to use them as ministry tools. We freely provide any information or part sources to those wanting help in their own ministries. Please see our Technology Page for more details.
Safe Water International Ministries also distributes Bibles, Sunday school materials, and other evangelistic materials to local churches in the countries in which we serve. We believe in coming alongside the church in order to enable them to better reach their communities for Christ. Please visit our Ministry and Contact Pages for more about how God is touching lives for his kingdom.

Our heart's desire for the people of Tijuana is that they come to a know Jesus Christ as Lord, Savior, and friend. Toward that goal, we minister as time and resources allow. We believe that faith is an action and that it is easier and more effective to demonstrate the love of God than to attempt to explain it.
We display the love of Jesus in tangible ways by helping with orphanages and feeding kitchens, assisting in building projects for the poor, ministering in various churches, and working with other missionaries and local pastors to help meet peoples' needs.
Puente de Amistad is dedicated to serving young people. In addition to the many adults who visit Puente de Amistad, many young people come here to experience missions and the Mexican culture.
Our goal is not to make missionaries of every person who walks through our gates, but rather, to provide a safe, affordable base from which others can minister as the Holy Spirit leads them.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why do we need a spiritual Family?
- We all need healthy relationships. "Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work:
If one falls down, his friend can help him up. But pity the one who falls and has no one to help him up!"
- Ecclesiastes 4:9-10
- We all need a place where we can use our gifts. "Do not neglect the gift that is in you, which was given to
you..." - Timothy 4:14
- We all need a place where we can grow without the pressure of having to feel inadequate, insignificant.
"They joined with the other believers and devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and fellowship,
sharing in the breaking of bread and prayer." - Acts 2:42
- We all need to belong to something bigger than ourselves. "Just as each of us has one body with many
members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we who are many form one
body, and each member belongs to all the others." - Romans 12:4-5
- The Bible makes it clear: "Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us
encourage one another..." - Hebrews 10:25

Vital ministries is the Student Ministry of First Baptist Church of Newton, IA. Our desire is for students to know God in a real, personal way. We believe this is Vital. We desire that each student get their hearts right with God. Mark 12:29-31 (The Great (Vital) Commandment) [...] "'And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.' The second is this: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no greater commandment greater than these." We recognize that these are formative years where a student's lifestyle today is charting their course for tomorrow. As a group we want to set a course in pursuit of God and encourage lives lived for His Glory.

Worship
Worship is something we can do individually, but God places special importance on believers worshiping together. To encourage unity in worship, our services are "blended." This means that services include both traditional and contemporary music. Our congregation spans a range of ages, backgrounds, and musical tastes. Some are in jeans, others in suits. Some are from next door; others were born overseas. All are committed to joyfully worshiping Jesus together.
